Google’s New Digital Parenting Tool Helps You Keep Tabs on Your Kids Online

Google recently announced a new app to enable parents keep tabs on what their kids are doing online on their devices. The tool known as Family Link lets parents manage what apps their kids install on Android devices, as well as set daily screen time limits for their device and remotely lock kids’ devices when it’s time to study, play or sleep.

We want them to explore and be inspired as they embark on their digital adventure, but every family feels differently about what their kids should and shouldn’t be able to do on their device. That’s why we developed the Family Link app. When your child is ready for their first Android device, Family Link lets you create a Google Account for them, which is like your own account, and also helps you set certain digital ground rules that work for your family.

This is a useful tool for parents who want to give their kids devices but at the same time keep an eye on what they do with those devices, including the ability to access  filtering options such as SafeSearch for apps like Google Search in order to block inappropriate content.

The service is in its early access program and therefore available by invitation only to US residents for now. Hopefully when the service is fully expanded parents in Nigeria and other parts of the world would be able to use it.
