Kaspersky joined other antivirus brands to launched a free version of its antivirus software. The free antivirus is already available for Nigerian users.
The driving force behind the free version is machine learning, not advertisements according to the CEO Eugene Kaspersky in a blog post. The plan is to use the data you contribute to improve machine learning across its products. The features of the free version include:
- File Anti-Virus – protects the computer file system.
- Mail Anti-Virus – checks inbound and outbound mail for viruses.
- Web Anti-Virus – blocks dangerous websites and malicious scripts on websites.
- IM Anti-Virus – instant messaging applications protection.
- Anti-Phishing – prevents phishing attacks.
- On-Screen Keyboard – protects users from fraudulent key loggers.
The only difference between the free and paid version is VPN, Parental Controls and Online Payment Protection features. Kaspersky’s free offering seems a lot better than Microsoft Windows Defender in terms of supported features.
